Judy
Wood / Glasswood Studio
Judy Wood is a Canadian glass artist with over twenty years experience
in her medium. A specialist in realistic original design work, she
has become well known for her animal work, particularly dogs and
horses, although she is interested in all aspects of the natural
world. Other subject matter portrayed in her work includes rodeo
and working cowboys, Native people, both contemporary and historic,
polo, racehorse and carousel art.
For
the past several years, Judy has worked exclusively in the medium
of glass mosaic. This allows her to do the highly detailed work
she enjoys, while at the same time producing a virtually non-breakable,
unfading work of wall art. Mosaic has a tradition going back over
four thousand years, and is one of the classic art media now enjoying
a revival.
Judy has shown extensively in western Canada, and her work is featured
in collections all over North America and beyond. She has shown
her western work at the world famous Calgary Stampede, and exhibits
regularly at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, home of some of the top
equestrian events in North America. Her art has been featured in
the horse art magazines, The Equine Image and Equine Visions, and
in British and American mosaic design books. Her mosaic work has
also been accepted into the American Academy of Equine Artists Fall
Showcase, a first for her medium at this elite show.
Judy
is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, in the heart of the
Canadian prairies, where she grew up, married and raised her family
(two daughters, now mothers with sons of their own). An active horse
owner and rider, Judy schools dressage with her 17 hand Canadian
Warmblood (Holsteiner/TB) while her senior Thoroughbred enjoys a
well earned retirement. On the home front, Judy and her husband
share their space with a Boxer dog and two "SPCA-special"
cats.
