GAGs
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are a naturally occurring group of carbohydrates which contain a variety of amino sugars. Some of these GAGs are sulfated i.e. keratin sulfate and chondroitin sulfate, while some are not, such as hyaluronic acid. The chondroitin sulfates, along with keratin sulfate, are a component of the proteoglycan complexes of articular cartilage. They combine into large molecular complexes that spread out over the area of the articular cartilage, aiding in the maintenance of the joint structure.
There are many conflicting viewpoints on whether or not orally administered GAG products can survive the digestive procedure, and if they do, how much actually reaches the intended site. There are no known detrimental effects associated with the use of GAG products, so you are not likely to do any damage by feeding these products.
