Desert
Horses! In the Desert.
Scottsdale AZ. All Arabian Show
The 46th Scottsdale All Arabian
Show was a wonderful success. Over nineteen hundred Arabian horses
showed at the West World Facility in the warm winter desert air,
Feb. 16th to 25th 2001. This 10 day, 8 ring extravaganza brought
out the best Arabians, Half Arabians and Anglo Arabians in North
America. The show was considered to rank with the National Championship
Shows for quality competition. The rings were busy with all the
different types of competitions, from halter, pleasure, park,
driving, hunter and working cowhorses to mention a few. The brilliance
of the costume class to the black and white formal dress of the
Hack and Dressage ring was a study in visual contrasts. From
dawn to dusk there was always a swirl of color and activity in
the barns, warmup areas and the show ring.
Lunch breaks were busy
with presentations, open barns, pulse raising music and buffets
setting the mood; for the commerce of buying and selling horses
and stallion services. The vendors of food and horse related
goods and services lent more to the feeling of a Far Eastern
Bazaar of past Centuries.

The show committee and
the 200 volunteers had a smooth show and targeted to raised half
a million dollars for their charity, the Valley Hospice.
This show has come a long way. 46 years ago it was an afternoon
at Frank McCormick's ranch rumored to have only 14 entries.
