"COMPLETE RIDER" YOUR #1 HORSE DESTINATION

Behind the Scenes at Spruce Meadows National-June 11 2001
It was Shell Cup Derby Day at Spruce Meadows , the world famous show jumping facility in Calgary Alberta, on a day of mixed weather.--more about the weather-- CR will take you behind the scenes to see the many people that work or volunteer to make this event appear seamless when you watch the event on Sports TV.

The grooms taking care of thier horses, the coaches giving thier students advice after thier ride.

The celebration of a win or a place, at this outstanding competition with over 600 horses. The victory ride led by the honor guard in their scarlet tunics and shiny helmets

The officials: that makes sure the rules are followed. The steward in the warmup areas, and the drug tester waiting patiently to take the next selected horse to go to the testing stall.

The ever popular Pedro who calls the competitors to the gate with his perchance for funny hats and 20 languages, makes sure the riders are ready to enter under the clock tower on time, focused to try their skill on a very challenging course.

The demonstrations in the square when you want a break from the International ring. The theme was a Country Fair. This young farrier, showed us how they make horse shoes from rods of steel.

The course was difficult, the time allowed demanding, as a result many top riders had unheard of double digit faults and no clears.

The weather played a part with rain holds and affected the footing on the dreaded hill and Devils Dike.

We are not going to spoil the ending as you can see the event on delayed broadcast. BUT we saw a lot of this flag going up the pole after every class in the International ring this day.
